Can you disable Spanning Tree Protocol? Not in most cases, if you want your layer 2 Ethernet network to work. In this video, David Bombal uses Cisco's Packet Tracer tool to demonstrate how disabling STP results in duplication of packets and traffic flooding. STP was invented by Radia Perlman to prevent bridge loops that lead to broadcast storms.
