Linksys, a division of networking giant Cisco, rolled out a new Ethernet-based VPN router it's aiming at small businesses.

Like all routers, Linksys' 10/100 8-Port VPN Router allows up to eight computers in a small office to share a single Internet connection. It also lets customers plug in a second Net connection to serve as an instant backup in case the primary link goes down.

Integrated virtual private network (VPN) capabilities let remote users connect via encrypted sessions to the small office's network; up to 50 simultaneous VPN sessions can be created and run through the router.

Priced at $299, the VPN router is available now.
