Sun Microsystems Inc. on Tuesday said it has agreed to acquire privately held Nauticus Networks in an all cash deal.Framingham, Mass.-based Nauticus makes data center switches that incorporate high-performance network and security application services, such as attack protection, denial-of-service mitigation, URL and application-level filtering with load balancing and Secure Socket Layer (SSL) acceleration.
Following the acquisition, Sun, based in Santa Clara, Calif., plans to incorporate Nauticus technology within its server platforms. The deal is expected to close this quarter.
"This convergence will give customers better integration of their network computing environment and will allow the development of new network services,'" Neil Knox, executive vice president of Volume Systems Products at Sun, said in a statement. "Combining intelligent, next generation content switching technology with Sun's volume systems strategy helps customers attack cost and complexity and simplify system administration."
