PROVO, Utah--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Cluster Resources, the company behind the Moab unified intelligent automation technology, today announced a strategic move into the commercial data center market with a new name and brand identity, Adaptive Computing, and an upgraded software suite focused on extending the value of Moab to the data center, private and public cloud environments. The company's robust Moab Adaptive Computing Suite platform for data centers and private clouds now allows a wider range of organizations to leverage Moab's proven management and automation capabilities in order to create dynamic, intelligent IT environments.

Adaptive Computing's Moab technology has a strong legacy in the high performance computing (HPC) market and currently manages 12 of the world's 20 largest computing installations and countless other data and compute intensive environments. These HPC environments require agile, intelligent workflow management and automation that can respond to changing business needs; the same requirements now needed within data center and cloud computing environments as organizations consolidate and virtualize resources, and allocate and manage applications to optimize service levels and reduce operational costs.

"As a result of the substantial advancements in industry-standard server and interconnect technologies, datacenters and IT service providers are increasingly adopting the scale-out computing model, with installations that resemble those of the largest high performance computing (HPC) environments. Visionary companies recognize this trend and are applying best practices from resource-intensive supercomputing facilities to their next-generation data center and cloud deployments," said Joe Zhou, senior analyst at Ideas International. "The HPC community has long exploited the tremendous value of intelligent automation. In this new age of enterprise computing, characterized by virtualization and cloud computing, a similar intelligence layer is required for optimizing resources in response to a dynamic business climate. Data center-wide virtualization and workload management can help to maximize the return on investments in infrastructure, applications and personnel."

Moab Adaptive Computing Suite

The company's Moab Adaptive Computing Suite for data centers and private clouds is the only cross-platform, intelligent automation suite whose features support the consolidation and virtualization of critical IT resources. New features and capabilities announced today include:    * Commercial data center application support and virtual machine management
    * Ability to adapt resources to respond to changing application and service requirements
    * Portal access for cloud-based environments

The new features extend the capabilities of the Moab environment and allow it to work as a virtual data center-level operating system whose underlying infrastructure behaves like a shared pool of resources. The system takes a unified, holistic view of the entire data center and reconfigures systems and optimizes the allocation of application services according to organizational policies and required service levels. These capabilities allow data center and private cloud environments to maximize service levels and reduce overall IT costs.

"More than ever, CIOs are under enormous pressure to deliver reliable business services under rapidly-changing business and IT conditions," said David Jackson, CEO of Adaptive Computing. "Our expertise in managing dynamic, data-rich and compute intensive environments gives Adaptive Computing a unique view of the complexities of the modern data center and cloud environment. This insight gives us the ability to design and deliver the intelligent automation tools required to manage the dynamic data center."

Enhanced Relationship with Global Data Center Market Leader

Along with the introduction of the Moab Adaptive Computing Suite, Adaptive Computing is announcing enhanced relationships with global leaders in the data center market. The company has been working closely with HP on deploying automated scale-out infrastructures for private clouds and grids, with a dynamic workload utility that integrates Moab with HP iLO (integrated Lights Out processor), HP SA (Server Automation) and applications to deliver end-to-end intelligent automation, provisioning and infrastructure management that requires minimal human intervention.Effective immediately, Cluster Resources, Inc. will change its name to Adaptive Computing Enterprises and operate under the corporate brand Adaptive Computing. Cluster Resources will continue as a business unit focused on the HPC market, while the Adaptive Computing unit will focus on the commercial data center space.
