Got virtual machines? Got a disaster-recovery strategy for them? If not, EVault wants a word with you. The company, which provides on-demand backup and disaster-recovery software and services, has launched a new VMware plug-in that automates the backup and restoration of virtual machines, OSs, applications and files. Backups run on admin-defined schedules, and a Web console provides centralized management, status monitors and reports. The data is stored at geographically dispersed data centers. To reduce the amount of data being transmitted, EVault compresses it and only backs up new and changed data at the block level. The VMware plug-in is available as part of the EVault InfoStage software, and as a service. InfoStage starts at $10,000, and plug-ins range from $795 to $995. Pricing for the service, which is based on gigabytes stored, starts around $40 per month.
