Google has made the mini-applications it offers for the desktop and in its personalized homepage service available to Web site operators who want to embed the applets in pages.
Google is not alone in offering the mini-applications it calls "gadgets." Apple Computer, Microsoft and Yahoo have similar offerings by different names. Google, however, has taken its service further by also making the applications available for embedding in Web pages.
Google on Tuesday made available the HTML needed to add a gadget to a Web site. Google's inventory of mini-applications includes games, clocks, calendars, calculators, and more. Third-party developers using Google-supplied tools contribute many of the gadgets.
