BROOMFIELD, Colo. -- Plasmon (LSE:PLM), the trusted source in archiving systems, today announced that Health Management Associates, Inc. (NYSE: HMA), a premier operator of acute care hospitals, selected Plasmon as its archival storage provider and has plans to implement Plasmon solutions across many of its 57 hospitals.

HMA needed a storage solution that would provide a secure, long-term solution to help the business meet industry requirements, while maintaining a reasonable cost of ownership. With the daily flow of patient images and other critical data entering HMAs storage infrastructure, capacity on its disk-based archiving storage systems were quickly being filled and the DVD media for the disaster-recovery tier was becoming burdensome to manage. Plasmon worked with HMA to determine a solution that would meet performance, reliability, scalability, cost, and longevity requirements.

“Improving our IT storage productivity, while reducing the cost of managing critical data was imperative to our growth strategy,” said Jim Jordan, CIO and Senior Vice President of Management Information Systems for HMA. “Add to this the need to make sure that we were meeting strict compliance requirements for archiving medical data, and we needed a solution that was more than just RAID disk. For anyone who is concerned about the overall affordability, performance, and flexibility of their archiving solution, I would strongly recommend exploring Plasmon’s UDO Archive Appliance.”
