HERNDON, Va., Aug. 23. NetWitness Corporation, the world leader in real-time network forensics and next generation network security monitoring, today announced the availability of its Series 3 appliance platforms. Designed to meet expanding operational use cases and provide a pathway for growth, the new Series 3 appliance offerings include expanded portable and branch office platforms, as well as the doubling of on-board disk storage of up to 24TB, doubling of processors of up to eight cores, and quadrupling RAM up to 128GB in its high-density 2U form factor.

"We have seen a dramatic evolution in the types and variety of deployments over the last twelve months," said Brian Girardi, Director of Product Management for NetWitness. "As our client base continues to expand and the deployment of next generation security monitoring becomes more pervasive, we recognize the increasing breadth of the operational use case. In response to growing demand for higher end throughput and storage capabilities, we are proud to announce the expansion of our hardware platform. This expansion makes it possible to harness the power of the NextGen solution from service provider architectures, throughout an enterprise infrastructure, as well as support field based investigations and downstream requirements."

As has always been the case, the NextGen infrastructure remains fully extensible with the ability to grow to meet any throughput and storage requirements. The new platform offerings further expand NetWitness NextGen enterprise-ready products, while also meeting demands for more capable field-ready and branch office deployments. NextGen appliance platform options now include offerings:

--  Portable: Initially released in August of 2009, NetWitness Eagle has  undergone an upgrade with this platform expansion. NetWitness Eagle is a portable and compact version of the NetWitness Decoder. It enables powerful and rapid field deployment of the NetWitness network monitoring platform with a briefcase sized footprint. The new version of NetWitness Eagle supports full disk encryption to protect the mobile platform, up to 10 easily removable hard drives and 2TB of built-in storage capacity.
--  Branch: For optimizing branch performance on a single platform and lowering total cost of ownership, the NetWitness NextGen Hybrid is a combined Decoder/Concentrator platform. This 1U device enables branch office or small security teams to scale to next-generation requirements while at the same time minimizing overall investment. It features a fixed storage capacity of 8TB.
--  Data Center: For high availability, enterprise wide deployments, Decoder, Concentrator and Broker appliances offer the deployment flexibility to meet various bandwidth and storage requirements. Offered in both 1U and 2U form factors and supported by an extensible design, throughput and storage are virtually limitless. 1U devices feature 8TB of built-in storage capacity, the 2U devices range from 12 to 24TB but can be scaled infinitely with additional DAS or SAN storage.
--  Service Provider: For the most demanding environments that require unlimited scalability and global network monitoring (a global organization operating their own backbone, national service providers, et al.), the NetWitness NextGen platform brings industry leading technology and experience to support any security operations team. Unlimited scalability is the cornerstone of this offering. NetWitness works with leading SAN providers and is currently supporting solutions with petabytes worth of storage deployed.

To enable current customers to take advantage of these platform improvements, NetWitness is offering an upgrade program for the remainder of the 2010 calendar year. Interested parties should contact their existing Sales representative. New inquiries should be directed to [email protected].
