The MEF's certification program brings us closer to a world where Ethernet will provide all the connectivity enterprises need, from the LAN to the WAN and in between. It will help carriers incorporate new Ethernet-compatible equipment into their networks and ensure that such equipment can interoperate with systems used by enterprises and other carriers. And with that assurance, end users will be able to use a router's inexpensive Ethernet interface to plug in to a true Ethernet service--and be certain it will perform reliably.

If you haven't talked to your service providers about metro-area or wide-area Ethernet service, make the call now. After years of disappointment, it's an idea whose time has come.
