MANHASSET, N.Y. — Qualcomm Inc. has filed a complaint with the U.S. International Trade Commission (ITC) alleging that Nokia Corp. and Nokia Inc. have engaged in unfair trade practices by importing and selling wireless communications devices that infringe Qualcomm's patents.
Qualcomm (San Diego) has asked the ITC to investigate Nokia's infringing imports and issue an exclusion order to bar importation of those Nokia handsets and other products. Qualcomm is also seeking a cease and desist order to bar further sales of infringing Nokia products that have already been imported and to halt the marketing and use of such imported products in the U.S.
On Nov. 4, 2005, Qualcomm sued Nokia in federal court in San Diego for allegedly infringing 11 of its patents and one patent owned by SnapTrack, related to GSM technology. Three of the patents included in Qualcomm's ITC complaint are also being asserted in the San Diego litigation.
The feud between the companies escalated (see May 24 story) when Qualcomm also sued Nokia for infringing two of its patents in the United Kingdom.
