Verizon Wireless Posts Court Win Over Telemarketers

Verizon Wireless said Friday it has won court actions that will stop two telemarketing firms from making what it claimed were illegal sales calls to cellular phone users.

Verizon Wireless had sued Intelligent Alternatives of San Diego and Resort Marketing Trends of Coral Springs, Florida, claiming they violated the law by using auto-dialing technology and recorded messages to sell products to cellular phone users. Verizon said Friday that the courts issued permanent injunctions to stop those activities, which violate Federal Communications Commission regulations.

In addition, Intelligent Alternatives was ordered to pay $20,000 in damages. Verizon Wireless said it will donate that amount to a San Diego charity that fights domestic violence.

Verizon Wireless also recently won court action to prevent private investigation firms from illegally gathering subscriber information.
