Brocade remains true to its core switching business, but finds other avenues are opening up as customers contemplate their next generation data centers. Recently Paul Travis, senior news editor at InformationWeek, and I met with Tom Buiocchi, worldwide marketing VP at fiber channel switch vendor Brocade Communications Systems Inc. We spent some time exploring a number of topics that are sure to be subjects of discussion at the vendor???s analyst???s day this week, including the new directions the vendor has been heading in, which are exemplified in part by its Tapestry line of products. While its switching products remain core to its business, the vendor sees an opportunity to go beyond the nitty-gritty of building up SANs to helping customers address broader next-generation data center issues. The most recent step in building out that portfolio was its acquisition last week of NuView Inc, the Houston-based vendor of enterprise file data management software.
During our interview we discussed everything from Brocade???s evolving strategy, which also includes a nascent services business.
