A survey released this week provides insight into what some IT pros and business managers are focused on -- and worried about -- as their organizations plan for digital transformation.

The poll, conducted by Pluribus Networks, found that a majority of IT pros are testing or deploying newer technologies such as software-defined networking, containers, and converged infrastructure. However, only 14% said they feel their IT department is ready to meet the changing needs of the business. Almost all (93%) expect digital transformation initiatives to require more staff.

A majority (59%) view the network as a strategic investment while public clouds and software-defined infrastructure came out as the top two technologies IT pros expect will most impact their companies over the next three years. Survey respondents also cited virtual desktop infrastructure (41%) and converged infrastructure (30%) as having big impacts.

The Pluribus survey polled 134 IT pros and business leaders attending VMworld 2016 in Las Vegas. See the infographic below for additional results.
