...for now, anyway. It's tempting to make much of the story that Dell is offering some packaged Athlon 64 processors through its website, but it sounds as if the company is simply dumping some acquired assets. That hardly represents a strategy, much less one that would matter in the server market. Even if Dell ever gets to that point, it's not as if you-the-buyer lack plenty of alternatives today should you be interested in AMD machines, whether servers or desktops. Mostly, it'd matter to AMD itself in its drive to keep snagging market share from Intel, and maybe to businesses that are already Dell shops and would gain some flexibility. Anyway, wake me up if anything like that happens.
