CHELMSFORD, Mass.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Desktone, Inc., provider of the first platform that enables hosted virtual desktops as an outsourced subscription service, today announced that it has teamed with NetApp to enable flexible, low-cost storage for DaaS??. The company has also joined the NetApp Partner Program.
The companies' combined solution, which integrates the Desktone Virtual-D Platform??? with NetApp?? Data ONTAP?? software, enables service providers to leverage NetApp's rapid virtual desktop provisioning and deduplication capabilities in their DaaS offerings. As a result of the economic benefits possible from this joint solution, service providers can offer DaaS at a price point at which enterprises realize significant CAPEX and TCO savings over deploying virtual desktop infrastructure themselves. "This partnership is the culmination of close collaboration to fully leverage NetApp storage for large-scale virtual desktop hosting," says Clint Battersby, CTO, Desktone. "It represents a quantum leap forward in solving the storage scalability, performance, and cost issues that have plagued virtual desktop deployments in the enterprise. The cost savings that service providers can now realize will enable them to offer DaaS at a very compelling price point while offering end-users a fully customizable desktop experience."
"DaaS is an important delivery model for hosted virtual desktops, and NetApp's scalable storage and data management solution is critical to enabling a cost-effective, agile solution," says Patrick Rogers, vice president of Solutions Marketing at NetApp. "By combining our advanced storage efficiency technologies with Desktone's platform, we're giving customers the capabilities they need to simplify management of large-scale, multitenant environments and streamline their business."
The Desktone-NetApp solution enables service providers and enterprises to benefit from:* Deduplication to reduce storage costs of both desktop images and user data and provide the flexibility for delivering personalized desktop environments using an organization's existing images and management processes * Intelligent caching and Performance Acceleration Module (PAM) to reduce disk I/O operations and dramatically improve hosted virtual desktop performance in large environments * Automated and simplified rapid cloning from a deduplicated virtual desktop template image to reduce operations from hours to minutes without consuming additional storage
