LONGMONT, Colo., June 14. Demonstrating continued adoption and validation of its innovative storage solutions by OEM and channel partners around the world, Dot Hill Systems Corp., a provider of world-class storage solutions and software for OEMs, open storage partners and system integrators, today announced it has shipped the 125,000th unit of RAID storage solutions based on its R/Evolution (Rapid Evolution) architecture.

First introduced in 2005, Dot Hill's R/Evolution architecture was designed to enable Dot Hill OEM and channel partners to cater to SMB customers through rapidly customizable storage solutions to meet varying performance, capacity, and other specific business requirements. The resulting R/Evolution architecture-based family of Dot Hill storage solutions effectively redefined entry-level storage with breakout data management and performance metrics, features such as mixed-drive type support and dual protocol interfaces. Energy saving features include the company's patented EcoStor "green" battery-free alternative for cache memory, drive spin-down and DC power options.

"Since its inception, the modular approach of the R/Evolution architecture has served Dot Hill and its customers well, giving birth to a number of innovations and setting a new standard for ease of use and feature/functionality for the entry-level storage segment," said Deni Connor, principal analyst, Storage Strategies Now. "Dot Hill gives channel partners and leading OEMs the flexibility to easily and effectively customize storage solutions that address key business needs. The new AssuredSAN 3000 Series, with a complete suite of Dot Hill's own disaster recovery software including remote replication, should help Dot Hill extend the life of this innovative architecture for years to come."

Dot Hill's family of R/Evolution products includes the first to market 3000 Series RAID arrays, launched in February 2010, which offered support for 8Gb Fibre Channel storage area networks (SANs), dual interface 8Gb Fibre Channel/1Gb iSCSI and 6Gb JBODs, along with optional Dot Hill AssuredRemote data management software for remote replication. These new products build on the solid legacy of the current generation of modular 2000, 2002 and 5000 series products which have been in volume production since 2005, and offered 4Gb Fibre Channel, 1Gb iSCSI, 3Gb SAS and 3Gb JBOD connectivity in addition to offering a number of firsts-to-market, including the first 2.5-inch RAID arrays to the entry-level market.

Dot Hill modular storage array solutions scale to support up to 144 mixed SAS/SATA disk drives, and up to 192 terabytes of capacity leveraging 2TB SATA disk drives, and feature a 2U rack footprint. Advanced data management capabilities such as AssuredCopy, Dot Hill's volume copy technology, enabling the creation of independent data volume copies for additional data protection, and Dot Hill's AssuredSnap snapshot capability for improved data availability and business continuity, allow companies to reduce the burden of meeting modern data retention policies and compliance associated with government regulations such as the HIPAA and Sarbanes-Oxley acts. Additionally, various solutions are NEBS (Network Equipment Building System) Level 3 certified and designed to meet the rigorous MIL-STD-810F requirements of the U.S. Department of Defense for land, sea and air deployment."Over the past few years, our R/Evolution architecture-based product line has experienced broad industry adoption, and has been selected as the foundation for best-in-class storage solutions by a wide range of OEM and channel partners," said Dana Kammersgard, president and CEO of Dot Hill Systems. "Dot Hill solutions enable organizations to safeguard and manage their data to meet today's rigorous demands, while providing the foundation to meet tomorrow's business needs strategically and cost-effectively."
