LITTLETON, Mass. -- Marathon Technologies Corporation, the leading provider of high availability software for Microsoft Windows® environments, announced today that it has successfully completed its Series B round of funding for $12 million. The round was led by Sierra Ventures. Sierra joins existing investors, Atlas Venture and Longworth Venture Partners, who also participated in the round. The company plans to use this new capital to further develop its innovative everRunTM high availability product line, increase its sales coverage with enterprise and mid-market customers, and expand its international market base.

The closing of the Series B round comes on the heels of a highly successful year in 2006, where Marathon experienced a significant increase in revenue compared to the same time period in 2005, with a proportional increase in its number of employees. This growth was attributed to the launch of everRun HA, an innovative new high availability solution, which broadened its target customer profile to include several new markets - and the productivity of the company’s growing partner channel. Marathon has grown its customer base to include more than 1,200 companies and has signed on over 100 reseller and other strategic partners that are key to expanding the company’s reach in growing markets throughout the world.

Sierra Ventures has a long, successful history investing in emerging information technology companies. The new investor will provide additional enterprise software expertise with the addition of Managing Partner, Steven Williams, to Marathon’s Board of Directors.

“Sierra Ventures invests in companies well positioned to take advantage of emerging market opportunities and who have established clear momentum with customers and partners. We look forward to working with Marathon’s leadership team in expanding the company’s presence globally, as well as the expansion into complementary markets where high availability is a critical decision point with CIOs and IT managers,” said Steven Williams, managing partner, Sierra Ventures. “Marathon has demonstrated its ability to effectively develop, market and sell world-class products that address a significant need around the protection and uptime of critical applications.”
