Mellanox Releases World's First 40 Gigabit Ethernet Converged Network Adapter Card
Mellanox extends its 40Gb/s technology leadership with breakthrough Ethernet connectivity solution for data center servers and storage systems
September 21, 2009
INTEL DEVELOPER FORUM, SAN FRANCISCO, CA - September 21, 2009 - Mellanox Technologies, Ltd., a leading supplier of end-to-end connectivity solutions for data center servers and storage systems, today announced availability of the Mellanox ConnectX-2 EN 40G converged network adapter card, the world's first 40 Gigabit Ethernet adapter solution. ConnectX-2 EN 40G enables data centers to maximize the utilization of the latest multi-core processors, achieve unprecedented Ethernet server and storage connectivity, and advance LAN and SAN unification efforts. Mellanox's 40 Gigabit Ethernet converged network adapter sets the stage for next-generation data centers by enabling high-bandwidth Ethernet fabrics optimized for efficiency while reducing costs, power, and complexity.
"Mellanox is committed to delivering high bandwidth, low-latency solutions to drive efficiency and productivity while lowering costs for data centers and cloud computing," said Eyal Waldman, chairman, president and CEO of Mellanox Technologies. "ConnectX-2 EN 40G delivers the industry's highest Ethernet bandwidth to unleash the performance potential of the latest multi-core CPUs, and provides the best return on investment for compute and storage infrastructure to end-users in terms of capital and operational expenses."
Today data centers require more than 10 Gigabits per second networking solutions to achieve the highest database transactions per second, to support the increasing networking demands of virtualized environments, and to enable true I/O consolidation. Mellanox's 40 Gigabit Ethernet converged network adapter provides IT managers with the networking solutions to build the most effective, future proof data centers that deliver the best user experience.
"Consistent with its technology leadership track record, Mellanox is pushing the Ethernet technology boundary with the release of its 40 Gigabit Ethernet solution," said Bob Wheeler, senior analyst at The Linley Group. "IT managers can today utilize Mellanox's 10 Gigabit Ethernet offerings and migrate to 40 Gigabit Ethernet for their next generation, future proofed data centers. The new ConnectX-2 EN 40G adapter card is an indication of the industry's insatiable demand for more data center networking performance."
Available today, ConnectX-2 EN 40G supports hardware-based I/O virtualization, including Single Root I/O Virtualization (SR-IOV), and delivers the features needed for a converged network with support for Data Center Bridging (DCB). Mellanox's 40 Gigabit Ethernet converged network adapter solution simplifies FCoE deployment with T11 Fibre Channel frame encapsulation support and hardware offloads. The single port ConnectX-2 EN 40G adapter comes with one QSFP connector suitable for use with copper or fiber optic cables to provide the highest flexibility to IT managers. As part of Mellanox's comprehensive portfolio of 10 Gigabit Ethernet and InfiniBand adapters, ConnectX-2 EN 40G is supported by a full suite of software drivers for Microsoft Windows, Linux distributions, VMware and Citrix XEN Server. ConnectX-2 EN 40G supports stateless offload and is fully interoperable with standard TCP/UDP/IP stacks.
