Every CIO and IT manager knows what the $64,000 question is when evaluating a new technology: Can I run mission-critical apps on it? If the answer isn't a firm, 100% "Yes," then you're testing it for a long time first or simply walking away from it. Those bets are just too expensive to take otherwise. So it says something about the extent to which a company like VMWare has perfected server virtualization for non-mainframe machines that an Arizona credit union is taking the plunge and chancing that virtualization will mean no downtime for its major apps.
