REDWOOD CITY, Calif. and BOULDER, Colo. -- NetApp(NASDAQ: NTAP) and Optica Technologies today announced the integration ofthe Decru® Lifetime Key Management KM500 appliance with the Optica Eclipzencryption appliance. By joining the Decru OpenKey program, Optica isworking with NetApp to deliver integrated, automated, and secure keymanagement across mainframe and open systems environments.

The integrated solution brings together proven security technologies thatwill provide customers a unified key management system across mainframe tapeencryption and open systems infrastructures. The KM500 appliance enablescustomers to leverage, simplify, and protect their security investmentsacross heterogeneous enterprise environments, including legacy and newstorage systems.

The Decru OpenKey partner program is designed to deliver heterogeneous keymanagement across a broad spectrum of encrypting devices and software, andis a critical enabler for end-to-end security solutions. The OpenKey APIarchitecture follows emerging industry standards such as P1619.3. Bycollaborating with OpenKey partners on standards definition, NetApp ismaximizing architectural robustness and the future value of customerinvestments.

In early 2007, Optica was the first mainframe solutions company to introducehigh-performance hardware-based encryption for thousands of deployed ESCON®tape libraries. Eclipz is the only solution that saves operators from havingto make the tough choice between replacing existing tape libraries with thenewer FICON tape systems with embedded encryption or, conversely, increasingtheir investment in host CPU resources to support lower-performing softwareencryption.

"We are pleased to be a member of the Decru OpenKey program," said GregCollins, Optica chairman and CEO. "When our customers address theircompliance obligations, they are looking for both open systems- andmainframe-based tape encryption solutions. In addition, it is critical thatwe can help them with a unified key management framework. NetApp is clearlyan industry leader in both enterprise key management and open systemsencryption. When you combine that with Eclipz, we have a winningcombination."
