LONDON -- Roehampton University has selected FibreSpan, the premier provider of private dark fibre networks, to extend its storage area network between dispersed campus sites.

Based on dark fibre, the new network will provide secure, high-speed, dedicated telecommunication links across a geographically-distributed IT infrastructure. The five year contract comprises a multi-core dark fibre network that will link four campuses, with scope for future expansion and additional resilience as required.

The network is due to be deployed in July 2007 and offers the University a highly flexible, reliable and cost-effective way to deliver secure communications between its sites. It will appear as a single transparent network, enabling users to communicate and share applications seamlessly regardless of location.

Our network provides Roehampton with a solid foundation on which they can run their mission-critical business applications,” comments Robert Bicket, Chief Executive of FibreSpan. “This announcement follows a series of new customer wins and supports our strength in providing unlimited bandwidth campus-wide local area networks which are ideal for educational establishments. The market continues to hold enormous potential for us and presents an opportunity to leverage our successes and our extensive experience”.
