RALEIGH, N.C. -- May 12, 2009 -- rPath today announced that Michael Torto has been appointed chief executive officer (CEO), positioning the company for accelerated growth in solutions for automating deployment and maintenance of complex applications across traditional, virtual and cloud-based environments. This appointment continues positive momentum for rPath, which was recognized as a leader in the just-published report, "IDC MarketScape: Worldwide Software Appliance 2009 Vendor Analysis, [i]" by IDC analysts Brett Waldman and Al Gillen.

"Enterprises have demonstrated strong interest in rPath technology for addressing the growing cost and complexity of application delivery," said Tim Buckley, executive chairman of the board for rPath. "Mike has the ideal skill set and personal attributes to accelerate rPath's growth as we harvest our deep R&D and market development investments to build a scalable business to serve enterprise markets. We're very pleased to have Mike leading the next phase of our growth."

Torto takes the CEO position as rPath continues its campaign to reform application delivery and system management, which typically remain time- and cost-intensive manual processes. rPath dramatically reduces the time, cost and risk of enterprise application delivery by automating the packaging, deployment, and maintenance of applications as complete and self-contained systems that are ready to run and manage in any traditional, virtual or cloud-based environment.

"rPath has the ideal combination of team, technology and market timing to have a transformational impact on the markets it serves and to become a phenomenal success in its own right," said Torto. "It's not often that you see these factors line up as well as they do at rPath."

Prior to joining rPath, Torto served as president and CEO of Centive, a leader in incentive management software, where he led the company's growth and expansion into global markets and through its acquisition by Xactly Corp. earlier this year. Before joining Centive, Torto was president and CEO of InCert Software, successfully transitioning the company from a start-up to a leading software provider. Before InCert, Torto served as president and CEO at Swan International Inc., a provider of application delivery and self-healing software, which he led to a successful IPO on the European EASDAQ in April of 1999. The IDC MarketScape report provides an overview of the competitive fitness of worldwide software appliance vendors, including an assessment of current success and future performance by evaluating them across categories such as functionality/offering delivered, innovation/R&D pace, productivity, and growth strategy. In evaluating rPath, IDC reveals "the advanced nature of rPath's tool set and the processes it helps manage is why rPath scored consistently at the top of the market in the capability categories." Likewise, "the company was near the top of the market for most of the strategy categories as well."

Torto said, "rPath is operating on the cusp of a huge, convergent opportunity: the growing complexity of applications, the huge cost pressures on IT operations, and the emergence of virtualization and cloud as application deployment environments. rPath is redefining application delivery and systems management, helping enterprise customers lower costs, lower risks in application delivery, and improve agility and business responsiveness."
