SUNNYVALE, Calif. -- Network Appliance, Inc. (NASDAQ: NTAP - News), a leading provider of storage and data management solutions, announced today that Blair Semple, security evangelist of Decru, a NetApp® (NASDAQ: NTAP - News) company, was named to the 2007-2008 governing board of the Storage Networking Industry Association (SNIA) Storage Security Industry Forum (SSIF).

The SSIF includes storage security experts working together to make the storage of information, in transit and at rest, more secure. The forum is a customer- and market-focused vendor consortium dedicated to increasing the availability of robust storage security solutions by identifying best practices on how to secure storage networks, educating vendors and end users on storage security topics, and promoting interoperable, standards-based solutions.

In his role, Semple will be responsible for driving the continuing education activities of the SSIF in the greater SNIA community and to the IT community at large. In addition, Semple will oversee the partnerships between the SSIF and organizations that desire to work with SSIF to achieve the goal of better integrating storage security solutions in general business and IT environments. Semple is currently the storage security evangelist at NetApp responsible for delivering global outbound communications on the state of the storage security market, working directly with NetApp customers to define the challenges and benefits of storage security.

"I am pleased to welcome Blair Semple and NetApp to the new SSIF governing board," said Vincent Franceschini, SNIA Board of Directors chair. "The SSIF has set far-reaching goals for 2007 and beyond to identify, understand, and define specific security threats to storage, seek interoperable approaches that lead to an enhanced security posture, and leverage a holistic view of storage security through interactions with industry standardization activities. Blair's data security knowledge and expertise will be a critical asset in driving new opportunities to enhance security in the storage industry through education and best practices development."
