Stonesoft Corporation has launched the latest version of its flagship firewall and virtual private network solution, designed to secure remote and mobile users on enterprise networks.

StoneGate Firewall and VPN version 2.5 provides enhanced functionality for enterprises with mobile users by supporting dynamic IP addresses on firewall interfaces and the forwarding of dynamic IP requests through the firewall. Users can also configure the VPN client in a hub topology in order to forward connections to other VPNs in a gateway and providing access to all corporate sites through one gateway.

One of the big challenges for enterprises with mobile workforces has been to strike a balance between unsecured remote access and stringent security measures that interfere with work or encourage users to get around security features. According to Stonesoft CEO Ilkka Hiidenheimo, the new release can make that balance easier to attain.

"StoneGate Firewall & VPN 2.5 addresses this problem by making it possible for administrators to direct all mobile user traffic through the corporate gateway via VPN, thereby enforcing the corporate security policy," Hiidenheimo said in a statement. "Instead of being vulnerable to attack, mobile users appear as though they are within the corporate network taking advantage of the corporate firewall, anti-virus and intrusion detection solutions."
