MILPITAS Calif. -- Adaptec, Inc. (NASDAQ: ADPT), a global leader in storage systems, today announced that they have extended their existing relationship with Intel Corporation to deliver advanced hardware and software RAID products. As part of the new collaboration, which includes a licensing agreement, the two companies will join forces in delivering RAID products to major OEM customers and intend to work together on the development, marketing, support, and innovation of other new RAID solutions.

The collaboration combines the powerful and flexible Intel IOP 34x Storage Processor family that delivers multi-protocol support and advanced data protection across a range of platforms, with three Adaptec technologies: the Unified Serial™ architecture that supports both Serial ATA (SATA) and Serial Attached SCSI (SAS) disk drives, ARC RAID stack and StorLib Management application programming interface (API). Products are expected to start shipping based on the collaboration this month.

“Intel and Adaptec share a common goal: deliver innovative storage solutions based on leading hardware and software RAID technology to provide advanced data protection features currently not available in the marketplace,” said S. “Sundi” Sundaresh, president and chief executive officer of Adaptec. “OEMs have a choice and we believe by working together, we can help OEM customers enter and serve new markets vital to their businesses.”
