There is always room for improvement in IT. Event notification is no exception. Yes, event management applications can send alerts to IT using a variety of mechanisms including via pagers. However, complaints about just how real-time these alerts are are common as the technology behind the event notification is often antiquated.BMC decided to step up its game with regard to incident management by integrating its business service management application portfolio with an incicent notification system from Invoq. The integration promises to make it possible for IT managers to get alerts instantly and notify other relevant personnel automatically.

On the surface, this might seem like a relatively mundane, if useful announcement. But actually I think this announcement is representative of some important automation advances. Automation is essential to streamline IT management and to more tightly link technology to the business.
