WALTHAM, Mass. -- Archivas, Inc., the leading provider of digital archiving solutions, today announced it has been granted a new patent for digital archiving technology by the United States Patent & Trademark Office.

Archivas has been granted U.S. Patent No. 7,155,466 for a system that enables an archive to independently manage both scheduled and event-triggered policies. The technology, “policy-based management of a redundant array of independent nodes,” is employed in Archivas Cluster™ (ArC™) software, which provides object-based storage for the long-term preservation and protection of digital assets. An archive object consists of raw archived data, such as a file or email message, plus permanently associated metadata and policy settings, which govern an object's behavior in the archive from its creation through disposition.

“The benefits that our customers derive from this patented technology flow from fundamental decisions we made when architecting the Archivas Cluster software,” said Andrés Rodriguez, chief technology officer and founder of Archivas. “Our extensible policy manager framework is database-driven, which allows us to quickly get answers to complex or previously unanticipated questions and use this information to drive policy actions and enforcement. Building ArC on this symmetric, distributed architecture allows us to continually push the envelope on scalability, performance, and functionality.”
