Boston Med Standardizes on Dell
Boston Medical Center has standardized on Dell
February 27, 2007
ROUND ROCK, Texas -- Boston Medical Center has standardized on Dell (NASDAQ:DELL - News) technology - in patient rooms, at nurses' stations and labs, in the data center and administrative offices - to enhance its ability to provide quality medical care to every patient.
As the area's largest level-one trauma center, Boston Medical Center relies on high availability of technology applications to manage patient care and hospital operations. The hospital is running its critical applications, including in-patient care records, more than 10,000 Internet-enabled medical devices, e-mail communications and business functions on Dell PowerEdge(TM) servers. Consolidating on Dell has made purchasing, procurement and management of technology easier, while giving Boston Medical Center the technology infrastructure it needs to enhance care today and into the future.
With the assistance of the Dell Services organization, the medical center has also deployed virtualization software on Dell servers, enabling the reduction of testing, development and training servers from 50 to five. Virtualization allows multiple applications and operating systems to run independently on a single server. For Boston Medical Center, this transition helps save critical installation and maintenance time for an organization that operates 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
"While cost savings are important, ultimately nothing matters to Boston Medical more than the quality of patient care," said Brad Blake, the medical center's director of infrastructure and engineering. "Because of the reliability and ease of use of our Dell infrastructure - as well as the availability it lends to our applications - the IT staff doesn't have to worry about our medical teams losing access to critical systems. That enables them to focus on our goal of treating every patient that comes through our doors with the best care we have to offer."
