Documentum on Tuesday introduced a new virtual document repository platform which will support all aspects of an enterprise's content management solutions.
Dubbed Documentum Virtual Repository -- and expected to ship next month -- the new platform features tools for integrating content in business processes, automates and schedules content collection from multiple sources, delivers that content to both internal and external destinations in multiple formats, and classifies and categorizes content to offer automated content management.
Users of the Repository will be able to uncover and assimilate content of all types, from all kinds of sources, said Documentum, including file servers, Web sites, and other applications, then apply Documentum's content management tools to the documents delivered to the storage center.
Also on Tuesday, Documentum announced it had acquired the askOnce business unit of Xerox -- terms for the deal were not disclosed -- and said it would use askOnce's technology to enable Virtual Repository's integration with existing content management solutions. Documentum has backed up the acquisition by creating an engineering center in Grenoble, France, the home of the Xerox Research Centre Europe, which ran the askOnce unit.
Documentum is a division of storage hardware maker EMC.
