GARDEN GROVE, Calif. -- Emulex Corporation (NYSE:ELX - News) today announced that its LPe11020-S, a 20-port Fibre Channel Network Express Module (NEM) for Sun Microsystems' Sun Blade 8000 Modular System, achieved unprecedented performance levels during a variety of industry-standard benchmark tests. During the evaluation, the LPe11020-S NEM achieved over 12.2 GB/s aggregate throughput on a fully populated blade chassis and the highest number of transactions, at more than 2.3 million IOPS.
``We're proud to recognize this record-breaking performance, which represents the highest Fibre Channel throughput available from a single Fibre Channel I/O module in the market today,'' said Mike Smith, executive vice president of worldwide marketing, Emulex. ``The Sun Blade 8000, together with the Emulex LPe11020-S, enables enterprise organizations to fully leverage the scalability and power of server blades with the flexibility, availability and expandability of a Storage Area Network.''
The Emulex LPe11020-S NEM is the industry's first high-density remote I/O solution, and provides SAN connectivity for up to 10 server blades. The LPe11020-S provides enterprise-class features such as non-disruptive hot plug, full redundancy, and high-performance scalable I/O. Further, the LPe11020-S NEM enables configuration changes, upgrades and maintenance to be performed without interrupting the server operation.
``The Sun Blade Independent I/O architecture delivers twice the I/O capacity via the only industry standards-based blade I/O design,'' said Michael McNerney, Director Blade Server Product Line, Sun Microsystems. ``Combined with Emulex's Fibre Channel LPe11020-S for SAN connectivity, customers now have a powerful solution to effectively configure their systems and mix applications to eliminate downtime while deploying resources.''
