ROSELAND, N.J. -- Expand Networks (www.expand.com), a leading provider of application acceleration solutions over the WAN, and recently positioned in Gartners Leaders Quadrant for WAN Optimization Controllers 2006, today announced that Brazil’s labor court, Tribunal Regional do Trabalho (TRT), has deployed Expand Networks technology to accelerate their network and make HTTP applications, Microsoft Exchange, Excel and Word operate rapidly across the existing links. TRT’s structure is spread throughout 24 main sites and a total of 620 locations, including additional satellite offices in remote locations within Brazil. All work associated with Brazil’s labor court system passes through TRT, which employs judges and administrative staff.

TRT’s network configuration is a star/mesh hybrid with connecting central sites and regional sites linking to the central location. Remotes connecting to their central links are all low bandwidth. For example, in the TRT 4 region, more than 600 professionals use the system’s 64 Kbps links to send emails, exchange documents and access the Web. One inherent problem with small links is extreme congestion which led to exceedingly slow performance and allowing only a few people to use the system simultaneously to send communications.

TRT 4 started out as a test bed for the entire region. The administrators realized that in order to handle increasing traffic within the current and future user-base, they needed to optimally manage bandwidth. The IT managers got to work and contacted DataCraft, a division of Dimension Data, who conducted proof-of-concepts with solutions from Expand Networks and Peribit-Juniper. At the conclusion, TRT 4 selected Expand’s Compass Platform based on the effective performance, superior value and rich features which, in a single comprehensive appliance, addressed bandwidth optimization, easy scalability and Quality of Service (QoS). This allows TRT to grow their network, support future MPLS deployments and provide Layer 7 visibility for HTTP. The technology components of Compass are built on Expand’s patented ECT technology, which provides a comprehensive solution for improving data transmissions for diverse protocols and all applications in a single device.

“Expand enables TRT 4 to optimize modest-size communication links and acquire a vastly improved performance,” said Alexandre Patarra, of DataCraft, a systems integrator and channel partner of Expand Networks who advised TRT. “Its robust performance and scalability make it an ideal solution not only for TRT 4, but for the entire TRT nationwide deployment.”
