NEW YORK -- HP today announced that it is working with Oracle to offer industry-leading scalability for Oracle Database 11g Real Application Cluster deployments and to help ensure that customers experience a seamless transition to the newly announced Oracle Database 11g.

HP StorageWorks technology has been used by Oracle as a validation and performance characterization platform for the Oracle Database 11g Direct Network File System (Direct NFS) feature with Decision Support System and Online Transaction Processing (OLTP) workloads.

In particular, based on joint testing with Oracle, the HP StorageWorks Enterprise File Services (EFS) Clustered Gateway with HP StorageWorks Enterprise Virtual Arrays demonstrated high NFS performance and scalability to support multiple demanding databases from a single, shared-data storage system.

When used with the HP StorageWorks EFS Clustered Gateway, Oracle Database 11g’s Direct NFS feature provides a single, unified connectivity model for both storage and networking, while saving the cost and complexity associated with Fibre Channel.

In addition, this powerful combination provides the ability to leverage existing storage area networks, providing investment protection while also allowing for significant flexibility for growth with mitigated risk.

“HP StorageWorks infrastructure products efficiently and effectively support the Oracle Database 11g feature set in enterprise IT environments,” said Ian Duncan, director of network-attached storage marketing, StorageWorks, HP. “The HP EFS Clustered Gateway, when used with the Direct NFS functionality in Oracle Database 11g, brings new levels of performance, availability and scalability in enterprise data, allowing management to focus on improving business outcomes.”
