Lucent Technologies has announced its new CBX 3500 Multiservice Edge Switch featuring a capacity of up to 70 gigabits per second. Aimed at an upgrade market, including replacement for its CBX 500 switch, the new switch is already installed in a trial at Choice One Communications.

The CBX 3500 switch supports the Lucent-Juniper Networks Multiservice MPLS Core solution. Lucent also announced Tuesday that Juniper has developed a IP/MPLS router module, which enables service providers to add IP/MPLS to the CBX 500 switch. The router module will be available in the fourth quarter.

Lucent said the CBX 3500 switch and the Lucent-Juniper MPLS core solution delivers a unified solution for standard services like IP, Ethernet, ATM, and Frame Relay.
