Continuing its quest to provide collaborative communications, Nortel has made its second acquisition in as many weeks, scooping up 3D voice software maker DiamondWare.DiamondWare offers high-definition 3D positional voice technology that brings life-like sound to virtual Web and voice communications, according to the Mesa, Ariz.-based company. For example, if several users in a meeting are speaking simultaneously, DiamondWare technology lets each individual hear participants in relation to how far away they are in the virtual space. Participants can also engage in private conversations.
"DiamondWare's 3D voice technology will help give Nortel's customers a more natural and immersive communication experience, whether they're using it for traditional telephony and conferencing applications, mobile unified communications or for Web 2.0 virtual world environments," said Keith Weiner, CEO of DiamondWare, in a statement.
Last week Nortel acquired Pingtel, a subsidiary of mobile solutions provider Bluesocket, bringing open-source VoIP to its portfolio.ChannelWeb
