Laptop manufacturer Quanta and videoconferencing provider OoVoo will work together on a device to connect a standard HDTV to the Internet for high-def video conferencing. The device, called a Quanta Video Messenger, is expected later this year and will carry a consumer-level price--which will also make it attractive to SMBs who don't want to shell out for an enterprise-class telepresence system. The Video Messenger will connect users to PCs running OoVoo's software as well as to other Messenger owners.

According to OoVoo Chief Executive Philippe Schwarz, the company is also discussing the possibility of building the function into set-top boxes from U.S. phone and cable companies.Yahoo, Electronista
