SBC Communications Inc. on Thursday said it would drop the price of its highest speed DSL service for customers willing to sign a one-year contract and bundle the offering with local and long-distance services.

SBC Yahoo DSL Pro service, which provides download speeds of up to 3 megabits per second, is available for $29.99 a month with the one-year term agreement and bundled services, the San Antonio, Texas, telecommunications company said. SBC's web portal for DSL subscribers is developed through a partnership with Yahoo Inc.

The regular price for the service, under the same conditions, is $36.99. The promotion is available through March 31.

In offering the latest deal, SBC is hoping to lure consumers using dial-up connections, or to attract cable subscribers, which pay between $40 and $50 a month for comparable service, according to SBC.
