Sepaton announces the industry's fastest, most scalable virtual tape library

MARLBOROUGH, Mass. -- SEPATON, Inc. today extended its leadership position in the enterprise-class data protection market with a faster, larger capacity system designed to protect petabytes of data across the enterprise at a lower cost. The S2100R-ES2 Series 750 virtual tape library (VTL) scales to 1.2 PB's uncompressed usable capacity and data rates up to 9600 MB/second, out-performing competitive offerings by a factor of three in performance and two in scalability. With new RAID 6 protection, customers will realize improved resiliency without sacrificing performance or capacity utilization. With the next generation in VTL technology, customers benefit from dramatically faster backup and restore times, lower total cost of ownership, reduced risk of data loss, and longer online retention rates.

The S2100-ES2 is built upon SEPATON's unique ContentAware(TM) architecture to give users unparalleled control over data and to easily add advanced data protection applications available today including RAID 6, remotereplication, fail-over assurance, and data de-duplication.

Unmatched Performance for Enterprise Environments The S2100-ES2 Series 750 features 4 Gb Fibre Channel technology designed to enable backup/restores at up to 9600 MB/sec (previously 4800 MB/sec) and to scale capacity to more than 1.2 PB uncompressed usable capacity per appliance, or up to 60 PB with compression and DeltaStor(TM) data de-duplication software. By expanding capacity to store more data on disk in less physical space, customers can significantly reduce power, cooling and other operating and infrastructure costs by up to 96%. According to a Gartner report entitled, "Meeting the Data Center Power and Cooling Challenge" November 28, 2006 (Michael A. Bell), "by 2008, 50% of current data centers will have insufficient power and cooling capacity to meet the demands of high-density equipment.

The ES2 compresses data without impacting performance as the only VTL that can perform backups and restores at a rate of 34.5 TB/hour. The high-availability appliance can handle exponential data growth by adding up to sixteen Scalable Replication Engine (SRER) nodes per 750 Series VTL, and each SRE node performs at 600MB/s. Also new to the 750 Series is RAID 6 support for a higher level of data integrity and support for 3,072 virtual devices (previously 1,536).In a recently published ESG Lab Validation report, it was confirmed that the SEPATON S2100 VTL solution can sustain more than 600 MB/sec of backup throughput per node and that performance scales in a linear fashion as nodesare added. According to ESG Lab's Brian Garrett, technical director, "Witha focus on ease of use and box-to-backup simplicity, enterprise-class performance in excess of 600 MB/sec per node and a grid based architecture that is designed for extreme scalability and fault tolerance, ESG predicts we'll be hearing a lot more from SEPATON in years to come."
