Nortel Delivers on SIP Interoperability

Despite limitations, Nortel and its partners are serious about making Session Initiation Protocol work.

Nortel has demonstrated SIP interoperability, linking Polycom's VSX7000 endpoint video system with the telephony, presence and IM capabilities of the MCS 5100. The demonstration highlighted the strengths of both products, and that's the purpose of the SIP standard.

Although some vendors still whine about SIP's limitations, Nortel and its partners are showing they are serious about making it work. We'll become true believers when we see more third-party products shipping to customers.
