On the same day the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in Atlanta launched new flu pandemic preparedness guidelines, the agency learned the hard way that not all infections are biological. Intruders planted malware on the agency's podcasting Web site, which prompted the CDC to temporarily shut down the service on Feb. 1.

The malware may have infected users who visited the site, which has audio and video podcasts available for download. The agency says it received several hundred visits to the site before it detected the malware. Looks like it's time to stock up on Tamiflu and antivirus software, just in case. --Andrew Conry-Murray, [email protected]
