Data Domain and Luminex partner to address mainframe users' data protection needs

SANTA CLARA, Calif. -- Data Domain, a leading provider of Enterprise Protection Storage systems for disk backup and network-based disaster recovery, and Luminex Software, a leading developer of mainframe connectivity,channel gateway, storage and data distribution products, todayannounced that they have partnered to deliver solutions that allowmainframe users to reap the benefits of data deduplication fortape-free, disk-based backup and WAN vaulting of backup data for DR. By combining Data Domain appliances with Luminex's Channel Gatewayproducts, mainframe users can reduce or eliminate their reliance ontape systems and implement advanced data protection processes.
Luminex Channel Gateways enable FICON and ESCON mainframe protocoland virtual tape connectivity to open systems Ethernet and FibreChannel storage systems. Data Domain's enterprise protection storagesystems use Ethernet or Fibre Channel to connect into the ITinfrastructure. Shoden Data Systems has successfully integrated thevendors' solutions and deployed a mainframe environment dataprotection solution for a leading retail company in the Republic ofSouth Africa.
