ServGate Technologies has signed a deal with Dell to sell ServGate's new line of small-business network security products, representing the first of several major marketing deals it hopes to sign in the near future.
ServGate, which sells chiefly through a network of value-added resellers, will also look to sign "affinity marketing" deals with overnight shipping companies that sell their services via the Internet, said Atchison Frazer, ServGate vice president of corporate marketing. "If I can imbed myself in the transaction of the clickstream and use Dell as the fulfillment, we're more likely to look at those types of situations," he said.
The new ServGate products, called the EdgeForce M series, represent the next step in the vendor's efforts to develop holistic security products that protect each part of a small business' network. The EdgeForce M30, now available, is the first of seven devices in the line. It is designed for small businesses with up to 30 users and costs $995. The high end of the product line will support up to 1,000 users with 1Gbps of throughput.
The EdgeForce M30, housed in a single hardware device, offers spam and virus screening applications by McAfee, URL filtering by SurfControl, intrusion prevention, Web caching, firewall, and VPN services. It also offers "content protection," which prevents the loss of intellectual property and filters inappropriate content that may be damaging to the organization by scanning all outbound e-mail content, and "spam flood" prevention, which identifies and blocks mass e-mail attacks, said ServGate. Additionally, all EdgeForce M platforms will incorporate enhancements to ServGate's Full Context architecture available in fourth quarter 2004 including Intrusion Prevention and SSL VPN capabilities, the company said.
