Facebook has revamped an area of its Web site devoted to tips and tools that members can use to protect their privacy and identities while using the world's most popular social network and other online sites.

"Safety is Facebook's top priority. Our most talented people are dedicated to creating an environment where people can connect and share comfortably. As a result, we're unveiling today a completely redesigned Safety Center," said Facebook chief security officer Joe Sullivan, in a blog post Tuesday.

"It offers new safety resources for parents, educators, teens and members of the law enforcement community," Sullivan added.

The center was designed with input from Facebook's new Safety Advisory Board, which comprises privacy and security experts from around the world and which first convened in December.

The site includes general content, FAQs, tools and services geared to specific members of the Facebook community. For instance, the teens' section includes advice on what to do in the event of unwanted messages or cyber-bullying.

"We've quadrupled the safety content available, and we've created cleaner, more navigable interfaces to help you find answers to safety questions fast," said Sullivan, in his blog post.

"This portal—which we've been testing during the past few weeks—draws multimedia content from Facebook and from independent organizations specializing in safety and security online," Sullivan wrote.

Facebook is also a founding member of stopcyberbullying.org, which is dedicated to the prevention of Internet harassment of children and teens.

Facebook claims to have more than 400 million active users, 70% of whom live outside the United States.
