Hackers of the World, Unite!

Good luck getting people to listen to hackers when the press uses the word to describe "online supervillains."

Larholm's idea is a good one, but there will be many obstacles. You won't see all researchers getting on board. However, even if only some follow the group's recommendations, that'd be an improvement. Providing legal defense, shielding and counsel is also important, as researchers have been sued or prosecuted in the past. I doubt that congressional lobbying will be productive or useful. How much weight does the Electronic Frontier Foundation have compared with Microsoft or the RIAA?
