High Court Orders Computer ShutDowns

Once again, a U.S. District Court Judge has ordered the Department of Interior to disconnect computers from the Internet thanks to Security issues. Could service providers be next?

According to the court, Interior has failed to secure its system from hackers who could siphon off funds designated for Native Americans. Lamberth ordered all Interior computer systems offline, except those providing police and fire services, information for national parks and geologic information.

If enterprises don't keep up with security standards and hackers continue to compromise customer information, companies could face similar court-ordered shutdowns, pulling the plug on related operations, such as e-mail. More significant, court-ordered disconnects because of security problems could cost you some customers.
