Instant messaging is great stuff. I don't think anyone is going to argue against that. However it does come at a cost. Security, as it relates to IM, stinks. Public networks can be uncontrolled, unregulated hostile grounds of exploits and manipulators. Private networks usually has a high price tag when you factor in hardware and maintenance costs.
