WiTopia.Net said Tuesday it has formally launched an outsourced service that provides enterprise-grade WLAN security to smaller businesses.

The company's SecureMyWiFi service uses 802.1x security and enables businesses to use its hosted RADIUS servers for authentication and encryption of data. The service both aims to provide a level of security that most small businesses can't afford to deploy and to secure mobile access to key data at small companies, the company said in a statement.

"The portability of corporate and personal data on laptops, PDAs, and smartphones has opened up a new security hole for businesses and individuals", Bill Bullock, WiTopia's co-founder, said in a statement. "Businesses cannot just concern themselves with securing data on the company LAN. They also need to address the employee who broadcasts unencrypted proprietary data over an unsecured wireless network at a public hotspot or in their home."

The company said in a statement that the service requires no additional software or hardware and is compatible with Windows, Linux and Mac OS X. The service can use dynamically-assiged IP addresses provided by Internet service providers, simplifying protection from anywhere, including wireless hotspots, according to the company.

The service costs $10 per year per access point plus $1 per year per user, the company said.
