NEW YORK, June 17 /PRNewswire/ -- Dimension Data, a $4.5 billion IT services and solutions provider, today announced that its North American Global Service Center (GSC) has achieved ISO/IEC 27001 certification. This recognition demonstrates Dimension Data's commitment to information security and certifies that the company's North American GSC contains the facilities, people, processes and systems to provide secure services to its clients in accordance with the ISO 27001 standard.

Today's organizations are governed by regulations that require strict security and data protection policies. Financial institutions and healthcare organizations face regulations such as the Gramm-Leach-Bliley Act (GLBA) and the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA). Other organizations are required to comply with security mandates such as the PCI security standard for secure credit card processing. In order to comply, institutions need to identify and assess security risks, plan and implement security solutions to protect sensitive information, and establish measures to monitor and manage security systems. As the adoption of outsourced IT increases, organizations need to ensure that their IT services provider adheres to equally rigorous security controls.

To address this, Dimension Data's services offerings are managed and delivered out of five state-of-the-art GSCs located across the globe. These centers are staffed 24x7 by teams of technical experts who are tasked to deliver constant connectivity and application availability to Dimension Data clients. Because Dimension Data's Managed Services network becomes a third-party extension of its clients' networks, the information security within Dimension Data's GSCs is of utmost importance. Dimension Data's ISO 27001 certification signifies that its North American GSC operates an information security management system that complies with the requirements of this internationally recognized ISO standard. Dimension Data also provides consulting services and conducts security assessments to help organizations plan for their own ISO 27001 certifications.

"Undergoing the ISO certification process demonstrates our commitment to ensuring maximum information security for our clients," said Peter Davey, VP of GSC Operations, Dimension Data Americas. "In line with our philosophy of continuous improvement, we make ongoing investments in our Global Service Centers, taking advantage of new technologies to provide our clients with greater business value."

The ISO 27001 standard, published in October 2005 by the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) and the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC), specifies requirements for the establishment, implementation, monitoring and review, maintenance and improvement of an information security management system. As an ISO 27001 certified company, Dimension Data will continue to comply with organizations' regulatory expectations and requirements around information security.About Dimension Data
