We know these topics are of great importance. We've covered them extensively on Network Computing and in online events, such as the most recent Interop when I led a panel on “Sorting Out Your Connectivity Options.” One of my panelists was Pascal Menezes, Chief Technology Officer at MEF, an industry group of network, cloud, and technology providers working together to accelerate enterprise digital transformation. Pascal and other members of MEF are writing a monthly column for us as part of our ongoing coverage.

Why we need your help

Many enterprises are exploring or adopting SD-WAN and SASE to provide their increasingly distributed workforce with access to corporate resources in a manner that protects users, data, and the company.

Delivery of the services is dependent on cloud and service providers cobbling together a variety of software and hardware solutions to deliver SD-WAN and SASE services to businesses. Understandably, bringing together multiple point solutions to enable complex service deployments can be challenging and lead to problems.

In our continued coverage, we will try to identify the issues business face when evaluating, selecting, and deploying these services. That’s where you come in. By completing our survey, you can help us focus on the problems and issues that are of your greatest concern.

We have access to industry experts that can then help us put the issues into perspective and explore ways to overcome any problems.

For example, we have found that the biggest challenges for providers deploying SD-WAN services are the complexity of managing and operating a multi-vendor SD-WAN, integration of security options, and defining end-to-end SLAs. Comparably, their biggest challenges with SASE are a lack of industry standards, customer education (and expectations), vendors not offering complete SASE solutions, enforcing consistent security in complex environments, and more. Another important issue cited is the lack of test, certification, and other tools.

Network Computing will delve into these and other issues over the next year or two, presenting a vendor-neutral view of the marketplace. The survey results will help us guide that coverage.
