Cisco Systems signed a deal this week to purchase network processor vendor SpansLogic for an undisclosed amount.
The acquisition will provide Cisco with technology the company can incorporate into its switching gear to alleviate bottlenecks and speed up network performance, Cisco said.SpansLogic, a three year-old fabless semiconductor producer based in Mountain View, Calif., makes chips for networking equipment manufacturers looking to increase Ethernet traffic efficiency and accelerate switch throughput to keep up with increasing network speeds.
Once the deal closes, SpansLogic's products and its 14 employees will be incorporated into Cisco's data center business unit, which is led by senior vice president Tom Edsall. The deal is expected to be finalized at the end of next month.
