Foundry Networks has launched a new line of ultra-high-performance application switches optimized to meet the needs of service providers offering new triple-play services as well as enterprise data centers.

The new ServerIron switch family can scale up to 350,000 connections per second and 12 Gbps of throughput. The switches are available in three models, the smallest of which, the ServerIron 350, can support up to 112 Gigabit Ethernet ports in three-slot chassis. All the switches in the series feature redundant power, hot swappable and fully interchangeable modules, and options of 10/100, Gigabit copper and fiber, and 10 Gigabit interface modules.

The new switches also feature the latest version of Foundry's TrafficWorks operating system, which integrates advanced security features designed to protect against threats like buffer overflow, cookie poisoning and tampering, forceful browsing and SQL injection and cross-site scripting attacks. According to Foundry, the integration of all of these security features in a compact, scalable switch, will greatly simplify data center traffic management.

"Migration of enterprise applications to Web protocols is exposing these critical services to performance bottlenecks and security threats, and this challenge is compounded by the growing use of SSL-based secure Web transactions," Foundry Networks director of product marketing Gopala Tumuluri said in a statement. "The new ServerIron switch family delivers unmatched service performance and protection, including network-based SSL acceleration in a modular architecture for future-proof expandability and upgradeability."
